Start with three tasks, not twenty features

Write down the questions you currently ask each other. “Which side was last?” calls for a clear feeding record. “Did anyone log that nap?” calls for shared visibility. “Where are last month’s photos?” calls for a journal and a usable export.

Choose three tasks that would save you effort this week. A prediction, a chart or a milestone list is an optional extra unless it helps with one of those tasks. A paper log may be enough, and you can use the free printable worksheet before choosing an app.

Do not put real sensitive information into an app just to test its controls. A clearly labelled sample record is enough for the first walkthrough.

Use this five-minute trial checklist

Try this What to check
Record a feed that started earlier Can you change both date and time without starting again?
Stop a sleep timer late Can you correct the end instead of recording the time you noticed?
Make an accidental entry Can you undo it and see what changed?
Read the record on a second device Is the right child selected, and is the latest entry visible?
Export your sample Can you open it and recognise the times, units and entry types?

If offline use matters, test it after initial setup using sample data. Then reconnect and confirm the record appears where you expect. “Offline” can mean different things for logging, media and sharing; ask which operations need a connection.

Check the costs and permissions you will live with

Check whether an additional caregiver, export, older history or the feature you want requires payment. Read the current store listing and provider’s terms; introductory access does not establish a permanent price.

Review who can see the child’s records and what each role can do. Find the export, account deletion and support routes before committing. If you want predictions, look for an explanation of inputs, missing-data behaviour and limits. A confident-looking time is not evidence that a prediction is accurate for your child.

Our comparison pages are written by Cocoon, a product being compared. Use them as a starting point and verify details with each provider.

Make a decision you can reverse

Your decision note can be simple: “We need both caregivers to see the last feed, we can correct mistakes easily, and we opened a sample export.” That is more useful than choosing the app with the most badges.

Keep your existing record until you have checked the replacement. Try a small import before moving everything. Read our switching checklist for date, unit and duplicate checks.

Cocoon offers one-tap logging, caregiver sharing and export controls. Its public web app can be tried now; Android access is through the private beta. Check the current availability on the home page.
