How to move from Apple Journal to Cocoon
Bring your Apple Journal entries — words, photos and all — into Cocoon's journal, beside the daily log.
Export your data from Apple Journal, then open app.getcocoonapp.com/import on a computer — or Import data in the app — and add the file. Cocoon recognises it as Apple Journal, shows a preview, skips duplicates and brings across journal entries, photos, videos and audio recordings.
What you need
The “Export journal” ZIP from Apple's Journal app.
Step 1 — export from Apple Journal
- Export your data from Apple Journal: Cocoon reads the “Export journal” ZIP from Apple's Journal app.
- Save the file somewhere you can reach it — email it to yourself, or save it to your Downloads or Files.
Step 2 — import into Cocoon
- On a computer, open app.getcocoonapp.com/import and sign in with the same account (or open Settings → Data & privacy → Import data on your phone).
- Drag your export file in, choose it, or paste from the clipboard. Cocoon detects which app it came from.
- Check the preview: what was found, which day each entry will be filed on, and whether dates were written day-first or month-first.
- Confirm. Duplicates are skipped, anything that couldn't be read is listed, and you can undo the whole import straight afterwards.
- Everything syncs to your phone and to the caregivers you share with.

Does Cocoon keep my Apple Journal photos?
Yes — Apple Journal entries come across as journal entries with their photos, videos, audio recordings where the export includes them, on the day they were written.
Will importing from Apple Journal create duplicates?
No. Cocoon skips anything it has already imported, so importing the same file twice is safe — handy if you keep using your old app for a few days while you switch.
Can I undo an import from Apple Journal?
Yes. Straight after an import, tap Undo this import and everything it added is removed. The preview before you confirm also shows what was found and which day each entry will be filed on.
Do I need to do this on a computer?
No, but it's usually easiest: exports tend to arrive by email or land in a Downloads folder. Open app.getcocoonapp.com/import on a computer, or use Settings → Data & privacy → Import data on your phone — either way, it syncs everywhere.
